day 05 - a song that reminds you of someone
Simple Man - Shinedown (Lynard Skynard cover)
This song is/was me and my dad’s “song”. We both really liked it, and one day we were singing it at the top of our lungs in his truck, and ever since then, it was just mutually agreed upon that this was our song. 5 years ago, when my sister was born, this song came on on our way to the hospital. I bawled. I realized that he wasn’t just my father anymore, and that I would have to share him. A year ago, when, through a series of events I don’t wish to discuss, he left, this song came on. And I went from being furious to missing my father more than anything in the world.
I hope to one day make peace with my father, because I’ve wanted, for a very long time, to dance to an instrumental version of this song with him if I were to ever get married.
