day 07 - a song that reminds you of a certain event
Your Ex-Lover Is Dead - Stars
I’m the last person you’ll hear reminiscing about high school. My high school experience was far from bad, it was far from uneventful, and it was far from miserable. But it’s in the past, and to me, it really wasn’t a turning point in my life. So, I rarely ever think back in it. In fact, there are just huge chunks where I don’t even remember it.
This song, however, still reminds me of my Senior year. I named it my senior year song, as a matter of fact. And I quoted it to myself quite often throughout the year.
Live through this, and you won’t look back.
…
I’m not sorry I met you. I’m not sorry it’s over. I’m not sorry there’s nothing to save.
This song is actually about two ex lovers that run into each other long after their relationship is over, and when both have moved on. They both admit the importance their time together, the difficulty of their separation, and the inevitable fact that they have moved on. In the beginning, the male says
All of that time you thought I was sad, I was just trying to remember your name.
So, let’s take out all the love aspect of it. I clearly went to high school, where important things clearly happened, and I was content for a majority of it. But shit happens, and it happened to me. And it was bad at times. But I graduated, and I got over it. And I’m glad it all happened, but I was glad when it was over, and now it’s a blur in my head.
